Mikhail Zayats preparing for Emanuel Newton fight


Russian Army hand-to-hand fight National Champion and Combat Sambo National Champion Mikhail Zayats (21-6 MMA, 2-0 BFC) is preparing for Bellator season eight light heavyweight tournament final at Bellator 94 where he will meet with Emanuel Newton (20-7-1 MMA, 3-1 BFC).

Bellator 94 will be held on March 28, 2013 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida. The event will be distributed live in prime time by Spike TV.

Zayats in his Bellator debut faced Brazilian MMA legend and former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Renato Sobral in the light heavyweight tournament on January 17, 2013 at Bellator 85. The Russian won the fight via TKO in the first round. Next in the semifinal, Zayats fought Jacob Noe on February 21, 2013 at Bellator 90. Zayats won the fight in dominant fashion, ending it with an armbar submission in the first round.

Newton is an American mixed martial artist who debutet on June 22, 2012 at Bellator 71 against Roy Boughton in the quarterfinal match of Bellator 2012 summer series light heavyweight tournament. Newton won via submission in the second round. In the semifinals of the tournament On July 20, 2012 at Bellator 72 he faced Attila Vegh and lost via split decision to the Slovak who is now the Bellator Light Heavyweight Champion. Later Newton faced Atanas Djambazov on January 17, 2013 at Bellator 85 in the quarterfinal match of Bellator season eight light heavyweight tournament and submitted his opponent by rear-naked choke in the second round. Next in the semifinals on February 21, 2013 at Bellator 90, underdog Newton faced former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and shocked the MMA world by knocking him out with spinning back fist in round one.
