Mickey asked, and he shall receive: Gall gets 'Super' Sage Northcutt at UFC on FOX 22

Mickey Gall is going to get what he asked for: “Super” Sage Northcutt.

Gall (3-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) called out Northcutt (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) for a welterweight fight a month ago after his first-round mauling submission of Phil “CM Punk” Brooks at UFC 203. And after hearing he’d been requested, Northcutt’s team contacted UFC President Dana White and said they were down.

Today, UFC officials announced the fight has been booked for UFC on FOX 22, which is set for Dec. 17 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The main card will air on FOX after prelims expected for FOX and UFC Fight Pass.

Gall stopped Punk by first-round submission in their highly anticipated welterweight bout at UFC 203, which took place Sept. 10 in Cleveland. The fight was the professional MMA debut for Punk, a former WWE champion.

Gall asked for the fight against Punk and got it, so he continued the trend by taking aim at Northcutt during his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “I hope they give me Sage,” Gall said. “I think everyone wants to see that fight.”

Sage Northcutt

Northcutt has just one career fight at 170 pounds, and that resulted in his lone career loss, which came against Bryan Barberena at UFC on FOX 18 in January.

But he rebounded from that loss with a unanimous decision win over Enrique Marin at UFC 200 in July. He started his pro career 5-0 with five stoppages, and in the fifth he was discovered by White at Legacy FC 44 in Houston during the filming of “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight.” He was quickly scooped up by the UFC and made his promotional debut with a 57-second TKO of Francisco Trevino at UFC 192 in Houston a year ago. A submission of Cody Pfister followed before he moved up to welterweight for the fight with Barberena.
