Michael Johnson vs. Gleison Tibau lightweight bout set for UFC 168 in Las Vegas

gleison-tibau-13.jpgThe UFC’s year-end card in Las Vegas continues to shape itself up with the addition of a lightweight fight to the card.

Michael Johnson (13-8 MMA, 5-4 UFC) will meet Gleison Tibau (28-9 MMA, 13-7 UFC) at UFC 168 in December. UFC officials announced the new fight booking Wednesday night.

Featuring two heavily anticipated title fights with middleweight champ Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva and women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate, UFC 168 takes place Dec. 18 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. Johnson vs. Tibau is likely to be part of the preliminary card.

Johnson got back in the win column in August with a unanimous decision upset win over hometown favorite Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night 26 in Boston. That win snapped a two-fight losing skid that saw him drop a decision to Myles Jury at UFC 155 this past December and then get choked out by Reza Madai in Sweden in April. The “TUF 12? runner-up will be fighting in the UFC for the 10th time and is 0-2 in his two career fights in Las Vegas.

Tibau has won back-to-back fights and three of his past four. Less than three weeks ago, he took a split decision from Jamie Varner at UFC 164 in Milwaukee. In May, he submitted John Cholish with a second-round guillotine choke at UFC on FX 8 in his native Brazil. That win got him back on track after a split-decision loss to Evan Dunham at UFC 156. Las Vegas hasn’t been very friendly to Tibau, either. The 30-year-old has just one win in six outings in Sin City.

With the addition, the latest UFC 168 card now includes:

  • Champ Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva – for middleweight title
  • Champ Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate – for women’s bantamweight title
  • Josh Barnett vs. Travis Browne
  • Michael Johnson vs. Gleison Tibau
