Michael Chiesa meets Francisco Trinaldo at UFC 173 in Vegas

A lightweight bout between “The Ultimate Fighter 15? champion Michael Chiesa (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and “TUF: Brazil” vet Francisco Trinaldo (14-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) is the latest addition to the UFC 173 lineup.

UFC officials today announced the bout.

UFC 173 takes place May 24 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Chiesa vs. Trinaldo will likely be part of the prelims.

Chiesa recently rebounded from his first career loss, which came via submission to respected veteran Jorge Masvidal, with an impressive second-round choke-out of Colton Smith at UFC Fight Night 31 in October. Chiesa, a 26-year-old Team Alpha Male fighter, picked up his second career “Submission of the Night” bonus with the victory, which was his eighth submission win in 10 career victories.

He now faces 35-year-old Brazilian Trinaldo, who recently earned a split-decision victory over Jesse Ronson at UFC Fight Night 36 for his third UFC win in his past four fights. Prior to a September loss to Piotr Hallmann, “Massaranduba” posted a pair of submission victories over C.J. Keith and Mike Rio.

• James Krause vs. Jamie Varner
• T.J. Dillashaw vs. Takeya Mizugaki
