Melvin Guillard at UFC 119Two exciting lightweights have been matched up for the TUF 16 Finale, as Melvin Guillard is set to square off with former WEC champion Jamie Varner.

UFC officials announced the pairing late Thursday evening.

Always exciting in the cage, Melvin Guillard returns to action in December looking to improve upon his recent 1-3 record in the Octagon. Following a run that saw him almost reach title contention, Guillard dropped back-to-back fights before picking up a win over Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148.

Guillard made a quick turnaround and almost defeated former teammate Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, but wound up on the wrong end of a first-round knockout when Cerrone battled back from the brink of defeat.

Now Guillard will face former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner, with both fighters looking for victory.

Varner made an impressive return to the UFC by knocking out young phenom Edson Barboza back in May, before losing to Joe Lauzon in a “Fight of the Year” candidate at UFC on Fox 4 in August.

Varner will look to add Guillard’s name to his resume when he meets him at the TUF 16 Finale in December.
