McKee-Cobb Title Bout, Lewis-Gouveia 5-Rounder Set for MFC 32

Lightweights Antonio McKee and Brian Cobb have a new date for their postponed Maximum Fighting Championship title bout, officials from the Canadian promotion announced Sunday.

Originally slated to meet on Oct. 7, the pair will instead tangle for McKee’s belt Jan. 27 in the co-main event of MFC 32 “Bitter Rivals” at the Mayfield Inn Trade and Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Occupying the other co-headlining slot will be the MFC’s first non-title five-rounder, a 205-pound clash between UFC veteran Wilson Gouveia and MFC mainstay Dwayne Lewis.

McKee, 41, has been sidelined by a knee injury for much of 2011, his lone bout since his one-and-done stint in the UFC coming in an August submission win over Australian Jai Bradney. Former California State Bakersfield wrestler Cobb, 31, enters the title tilt on a four-fight winning streak, having earned his status as No. 1 contender with a June pummeling of Drew Fickett.

Inactive since his May 2010 loss to current MFC light heavyweight champ Ryan Jimmo, 33-year-old Gouveia will look to halt a three-fight skid which includes stoppage defeats at the hands of Nate Marquardt and Alan Belcher. Alberta native Lewis also seeks to rebound from a February loss to Jimmo, prior to which “D-Bomb” had recorded wins over Razak Al-Hassan and Mike Nickels.

In addition to the co-main events, MFC officials also announced Sunday that two lightweights fresh off of wins at MFC 31, Californian Adam Lynn and Edmonton’s Mukai Maromo, will meet at MFC 32.
