Matt Mitrione vs. Rampage Jackson “Ain’t Going to Happen”

Matt Mitrione at UFC 119There are some occasions when fighters try to take matchmaking duties into their own hands, and sometimes it works.

Then again there are also many times when the matchmaking is best left up to UFC executive Joe Silva.

That appears to be the case for the proposed heavyweight fight between former light heavyweight champion Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and former Ultimate Fighter competitor Matt Mitrione.

The two competitors recently contacted each other in hopes of squaring off in a heavyweight bout potentially later this year at UFC 155 in Las Vegas.

Well, UFC President Dana White is going to crush their hopes because Rampage vs. Mitrione isn’t in the plans for the promotion any time soon.

“No, that ain’t going to happen,” White said when asked about the potential match-up.

Mitrione is already scheduled to fight at UFC 155 against British heavyweight Phil De Fries, but apparently had hopes of facing Jackson on the card instead.

For now, Mitrione will stay focused on his bout with De Fries in December, while Jackson waits to get medical clearance so he can schedule his final fight on his current contract with the UFC.
