Matt Mitrione’s planned heavyweight meeting with Brendan Schaub has been pulled from the UFC on Fox 8 bill after Mitrione suffered a training injury.

UFC officials announced the news on Thursday, confirming that the fight will be rescheduled for a future event. The change marks the third alteration to the UFC on Fox 8 card today, as the promotion earlier revealed that Bobby Voelker and Tim Means will replace the injured Siyar Bahadurzada and Bobby Green at the July 27 event.

UFC on Fox 8 takes place at Seattle’s KeyArena and is headlined by a flyweight title confrontation between Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga. The evening’s main card airs live on Fox’s flagship network and will also showcase a welterweight co-headliner pitting Jake Ellenberger against Rory MacDonald.

Both Mitrione and Schaub are alumni of “The Ultimate Fighter 10” and former professional football players. Following his time on the reality show, Mitrione rattled off five straight wins to begin his UFC career before suffering back-to-back losses to Cheick Kongo and Roy Nelson. “Meathead” righted his ship in his last outing, however, as the 34-year-old knocked out British grappler Philip De Fries in just 19 seconds at UFC on Fuel TV 9.

Like his former “TUF 10” cast mate, Schaub also halted a two-fight skid in his most recent contest, when he outpointed Lavar Johnson in a grinding unanimous decision this past February. Schaub posted four straight wins after falling to Nelson in the “TUF 10” finals, defeating the likes of Gabriel Gonzaga and Mirko Filipovic before suffering consecutive knockouts at the hands of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell.

Stefan Struve looks to once again exploit his dinosaur-like reach advantage to put away Matt Mitrione at UFC 175: Weidman vs. Machida in Vegas. Stefan Struve vs. Matt Mitrione Heavyweight Stefan Struve? Yea. Stefan Struve. Nooow I remember. Seems like the topic de jour, if my post yesterday about Uriah Hall is any indication, is about talent. True, talent is by nature 'ad hoc'. We define and identify talent after it's already punched us in the face. Like Hall, Struve is another fighter considere read news >>
