Marloes Coenen Cleared, Romy Ruyssen Heavy on First Attempt for Invicta FC 1 Headliner

Ruyssen initially checked in at 150.4 pounds ahead of her rematch with Coenen, who tipped the scales at 146 even. On her second attempt, Ruyssen weighed 149.8 pounds, forfeiting 25 percent of her fight purse as a result. The all-female event takes place Saturday night at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan., and streams live on InvictaFC.com starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT..

The headliners first met in August 2008, with Coenen submitting the French fighter via rear-naked choke in the second round. Since their initial encounter, Coenen has posted a 4-3 record, winning the Strikeforce 135-pound title from Sarah Kaufman in October 2010 before relinquishing the belt to Miesha Tate in her last in-cage appearance this past July.

Nine years younger than her foe, Ruyssen, 22, fought the future world champion in just her second pro fight. Following that defeat to Coenen, Ruyssen rattled off four consecutive submissions, most recently finishing Florence Berthe with with a guillotine choke on Nov. 26.

In the evening’s co-main event, Jessica Penne (105.6) will lock horns with fellow Bellator vet Lisa Ellis (106) in an atomweight attraction. A trio of scheduled bantamweight contests will also be decided on Saturday night, as Liz Carmouche (134.2), Kaitlin Young (135.4) and Sarah D’Alelio (135.2) square off with Ashleigh Curry (137.2), Leslie Smith (135) and Vanessa Mariscal (136), respectively.

Also of note, 2008 Olympic freestyle wrestling bronze medalist Randi Miller (149.8) will make her MMA debut against Mollie Estes (145), while kickboxing stylist Michele Gutierrez (125) faces Sarah Maloy (125.4) in a flyweight showdown.
