Marcus Brimage Wants the Winner of Max Holloway vs. Leonard Garcia at UFC 155

UFC featherweight Marcus Brimage knows exactly who he wants to fight next, and it will be determined at UFC 155 next weekend.

Brimage is currently training at his home camp at American Top Team in Florida, and thought he had a fight lined up until an injury claimed his next opponent.

No, his proposed opponent didn’t get hurt, but he did step into replace someone else who did.

Brimage was supposed to be matched up with young knockout artist Max Holloway, so now that their fight had to be delayed, he’s targeting the winner of Holloway versus Leonard Garcia, which takes place at next weekend’s UFC 155 show.

“Max Holloway and Leonard Garcia, the UFC was trying to set up me and Max Holloway to have a fight, but because of Cody McKenzie having to pull out, Max Holloway stepped up and took the fight short notice. So the winner of that fight, I want,” Brimage told MMAWeekly.com on Friday.

“I’ve been wanting Leonard Garcia because I like his style, Max Holloway, he’s a great slugger, it’s going to be a great fight. Hell, it might even take Fight of the Night. I want a piece of that, whoever wins, I got next.”

Brimage has been off since September when he defeated Jimy Hettes at UFC 152, but now he’s got his eyes set solely on the winner of Holloway vs. Garcia.

When breaking down the fight, Brimage favors Holloway to beat Garcia, but it really comes down to a game of inches and who can implement their game plan first.

“To be honest with you I’m thinking Max might win because he’ll be able to utilize his reach, especially his kicks, he throws a lot of head kicks. The thing is about Leonard Garcia is he’s a veteran, he’s been around for a long time, and from what I understand he hits like a ton of bricks. I don’t think Max Holloway hits that hard, but he’ll be able to range him out. If it goes to decision I think it goes to Max Holloway, but if Leonard touches him in the first, Max Holloway might go night-night,” said Brimage.

“I’m going to tell you something about both of them, they ain’t got no wrestling, but Leonard does have jiu-jitsu. If it hits the ground, Leonard Garcia might slap on a triangle or an armbar, but as far as takedowns, neither one of them are going to do that, so it’s going to be a great fight.”

Brimage has a lot of respect for both fighters, so he’s not looking at this so much as “call out”, but more of him seizing the opportunity to get a fight he wants, and what he wants is the winner of Hollway vs. Garcia.

“I’ve got momentum so keep going with it,” said Brimage. “I’m ready to get back on it.”
