Marcin Held on Dave Jansen Rematch: ‘I’m Going to Take Him Down and Finish Him’

After having a six-fight win streak come to a halt in his last outing, Bellator MMA lightweight Marcin Held plans to rebound when he rematches Dave Jansen at Bellator 155 on Friday in Boise, Idaho.

The two first fought in March 2013 at Bellator 93. Jansen was victorious that night, defeating Held by unanimous decision. This time around, Held says things will be different.

“I have more experience. In that fight, I was really close to winning the fight, but my cardio wasn’t great because I had a knee injury before the fight. Now, everything is okay. I don’t’ have an injury, so my cardio is good,” the Polish fighter told MMAWeekly.com.

“I was very tired in that fight. I got the injury like three weeks before the fight. I wasn’t able to do the cardio,” Held recalled. “All I did was make sure that my knee was together enough to compete because the fight was postponed two times. I didn’t want it to be a third time. Everything went okay, but my cardio. I wasn’t able to do almost nothing.”

Held enters the rematch injury free, but acknowledges that Jansen is a better fighter today than he was three years ago when the two first tangled.

“I think he’s a different fighter now. He’s a better fighter, but he’s also a different fighter,” said Held. “He’s kicking harder than he did before (while) standing. His kicks are very good.”

The 24-year-old feels confident heading into the rematch and predicts that he’ll finish Janson by taking him down and submitting him.

“I always go for the submission. I always perform to win the fight by submission or knockout,” he said. “I never want to win by decision. This time, I will also go for the submission and finish.

“In this fight, I’m going to take him down and finish him on the ground.”
