UFC officials confirmed the bout with Sherdog.com following a report from the Glendale News-Press . UFC 178 takes place on Sept. 27 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a light heavyweight title tilt between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier. The loaded lineup also includes a featherweight clash between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier as well as a bantamweight pairing pitting the returning Dominick Cruz against Takeya Mizugaki.
Following a unanimous decision loss at featherweight against Nik Lentz in May, Gamburyan will try his hand in a third weight class under the Zuffa banner. “The Anvil” holds a record of 4-6 in the UFC, with a potential seventh loss against Dennis Siver at UFC 168 eventually overturned to a no contest.
Gibson is coming off an impressive yet controversial technical knockout win against Johnny Bedford at UFC Fight Night “Swanson vs. Stephens.” The 26-year-old Visalia, Calif., native has gone 1-1 in his two UFC fights, falling to Aljamain Sterling in his Octagon debut.
