Malaysian Invasion Returns for a Second Season of Amateur Action

Allen ChongMalaysia has the fastest growing MMA scene in all of Asia and local telecommunications company Tune Talk has reaffirmed its commitment to the sport by organizing a second season of the MIMMA (Malaysian Invasion MMA) amateur series.

The first season saw a field of 300 aspiring mixed martial artists sign up with 112 entering the tournament in the opening round. The finale took place at Stadium Negara last June and also featured three professional fights put together by ONE FC.

Whereas the first season of MIMMA took place exclusively in Kuala Lumpur, this year the competition is hitting the roads and there will be a nationwide tour of tryouts heading to a number of cities including Sabah and Sarawak.

MIMMA is probably the largest scale amateur MMA competition taking place anywhere in the world, and the fights will be shown all over Asia by AXN. The winners of the second season will be competing for RM 150, 000 (45,000 USD) and the right to challenge the Season 1 winners for their titles.

MMA is going from strength to strength in Malaysia with small-scale local events taking place with increasing regularity and ONE FC selling out some of the biggest stadiums in Kuala Lumpur. Tune Talk CEO Jason Lo believes his company has been instrumental in this growth.

“Malaysia is at the center of ASEAN and it represents a melting pot of so many different cultures and styles. At Tune Talk, we never do anything halfhearted, just like the rest of the MMA community. Ever since our serious involvement in this sport, which surely will pivot our brand towards a common growth pattern, we have seen the growth of Malaysian MMA, putting us on the world map of MMA development.”

Also present at the press conference that took place in Kuala Lumpur was Yang Berhormat Tuan Khairy Jamaluddin, theMinister of Youth & Sports, which signals the level of legitimacy that MMA has achieved in Malaysia.
