MMA World Series of Fighting LogoA new player kicked off on Thursday with the MMA World Series of Fighting officially launching its brand of mixed martial arts.

The promotion is bursting straight out of the gate with a television deal with NBC Sports. The network will air the MMA World Series of Fighting events live, according to company president Ray Sefo.

“This is a one-year deal with NBC and we’re looking to do anywhere from eight to 10 shows a year,” announced Sefo at a Thursday press conference at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, the current home of the MMA World Series of Fighting.

The promotion kicks off its run on Nov. 3 with fighters like Miguel Torres, Gregor Gracie, Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante, Josh Burkman, John Gunderson, Bobby Lashley and others.

With its fights taking place in a decagon (a 10-sided cage), Sefo says that the MMA World Series of Fighting is first and foremost all about the fighters and the fans.

“Our goal is to look after fighters first and fans. Our goal is to be fair and honest with all of our athletes,” Sefo stated.

“This is not about me. This is not about the organization. This is about the fighters. Without them, we don’t have a company.”

Promotion officials had originally planned for the MMA World Series of Fighting to be based on a tournament format, but those plans have currently been put on hold. For now, the promotion will follow a more traditional path of fight cards featuring individual bouts, beginning with its Nov. 3 card at Planet Hollywood.
