Legacy FC Champ Bubba Bush Finally Gets His Shot at the Big Time at UFC 175 | MMAWeekly.com

Bubba BushThis summer is proving to be the turning point in the career of middleweight Bubba Bush.

After successfully defending his Legacy FC 185-pound title against Alfonso Gonzales on June 13, Bush got the call to face RFA champion Kevin Casey at UFC 175 on July 5.

For Bush, the step up to the UFC comes off of one of his best performances to date against Gonzales.

“It was a clean win and went a lot faster than I thought it would,” said Bush. “I thought I had to go deep (into the fight) to wear him down more, but I saw the opportunity to muscle him a little bit and get the finish. I’m happy with the outcome.

“I’m happy with my confidence in different positions, in different places, and my cage awareness in my fights. Personally, I’m getting a lot more comfortable in the cage and am happy with where things are at.”

Bush told MMAWeekly.com that moving up to the UFC is vindication for all the hard work he’s put in, and that the quick turn-around between fights will play to his advantage.

“We’ve been working towards this for a long time now – me, my camp, my training partners – it’s a great opportunity,” said Bush. “It’s just the beginning and I’m ready to get started.

“I know I was in the best shape of my career for my last fight – a five-round fight – and then I only took two days off and got back on it. My cardio is there, my weight is on, I came out healthy in my last fight, so very good to get back in.”

Having finally achieved his dream of joining the UFC, Bush (8-2) is looking forward to facing Casey (8-3) and vindicating his spot in the promotion with a standout victory on July 5.

“Kevin fights a lot like I do,” said Bush. “I think it’s going to be a matter of who is better at doing what we do, which I believe is me.”
