A flyweight bout with a top-10 fighter is the latest addition to May’s UFC Fight Night 87 event.
Officials today announced former title challenger Kyoji Horiguchi (16-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and vet Neil Seery (16-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) are booked to fight at the event.
UFC Fight Night 87 takes place May 8 at Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
Horiguchi is No. 7 in USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings. Seery isn’t ranked.
Horiguchi is on a 10-1 run that includes a 5-1 mark in the UFC, which he joined in 2013. Most recently, the 25-year-old Japanese fighter rebounded from a title loss to champ Demetrious Johnson with a decision victory over Chico Camus in September. The former Shooto bantamweight champion’s only other career loss came to Masakatsu Ueda at a 2012 Shooto event.
He looks to work his way back to another UFC title shot when he meets Seery, who recently submitted Jon Delos Reyes in an October “Performance of the Night” effort. The 36-year-old, who won a Cage Warriors title before signing wit the UFC in 2014, is now on a 3-1 run that also includes decision victories over Chris Beal and Phil Harris.
