'Kimbo Slice' says he was drug tested multiple times before Bellator 138

Two months after questions were raised about drug testing in connection with Bellator 138, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson said he was visited multiple times by the event’s overseeing athletic commission in the buildup to his fight with Ken Shamrock.

“They’ll show up at the gym and be like, ‘Pee in this cup,’ or I’ll get a phone call,” Slice today told MMAjunkie. “It’s cool, though. It’s all gravy. They want to make sure it’s a clean sport, because they’ve got these young kids that we’re being role models for.”

Slice backed an official line from Bellator, which today announced that both headliners had passed “pre-fight tests.” At the start of a media teleconference, before any questions were asked, Bellator CEO Scott Coker said the Missouri Office of Athletics had passed on the news this past week.

MOA Executive Director Tim Lueckenhoff previously said Slice (4-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Shamrock (28-15-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) would need to pass drug tests prior to the event, and Coker said the tests would be random. It was unclear, however, who was overseeing the process and what it would entail, and follow-up questions asking for clarification were not answered by the commission, Bellator, or the fighters’ camps.

Slice, 41, did complain about the intrusion into his training camp, but said he is open to being tested and said it’s a necessary part of the sport.

“These young kids look up to us, and if we’re all on steroids and f-cked up on cocaine and sh-t, then we can’t be role models to these kids,” he said. “I can understand that. The people behind the game, they just want to make sure sh-t is clean, you know?”

Despite that, Slice, a heavyweight MMA vet who wasn’t fought since a 2010 loss that triggered his release from the UFC, said he doesn’t care whether Shamrock uses performance-enhancing drugs.

“I don’t care what he has to do to get himself ready for the fight,” Slice said. “Like, someone was saying he looks great, like he’s all ripped up. That’s good, man. Give me your guy. I’m not knocking nothing no one does. I’m not a hater at all. F-ck it. I want him to be at his best when we fight.

“It’s got to get a (Superman) tattooed on his nuts, just show up that night. Give me your best. If I f-ckin’ lose this fight, I want to lose to him at his best. If I win, I want to win and knock him the f-ck out at his best. That’s why I’m not going to cry over sh-t. Drink your extra protein shake and let’s do this.”

Slice and Shamrock were supposed to face off in 2008 under the now-defunct EliteXC banner, but Shamrock was not cleared to fight on the day of the bout when he suffered a cut over his eye.

Shamrock, 51, hasn’t fought since 2010 loss in the King of the Cage promotion that left his professional record at 2-7 since 2005.

“I just hope they pad his hands up so he don’t cut himself and keep all the sharp objects away from him this time,” Slice said. “What is he going to do next time – shoot himself in the foot? I don’t know what Ken’s got to do.

“I just hope he takes this fight, because who cuts themselves? You do sh-t like that when you’re scared, when you’re afraid. It’s as close as you come to committing suicide. I just hope he fights; I hope he don’t p-ssy out. Because of he does, I’m taking it to the dressing room, and we’re just going to do an old fashioned bare-knuckle right there in St. Louis. F-ck it.”
