Kevin Casey and Robert Drysdale Fail UFC 175 and TUF 19 Finale Drug Tests

Two fighters from the UFC’s back-to-back events during International Fight Week failed their drug tests.

Kevin Casey at UFC 175 and Robert Drysdale at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale each was tested following their respective bouts, and each failed, according to an initial report by MMAJunkie.com.

Nevada Athletic Commission Chair Francisco Aguilar confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com, saying that Casey tested positive for Drostanolone, while Drysdale’s result revealed an elevated Testosterone-to-Epitestosterone ratio.

Both fighters are under a temporary suspension pending the NAC convening to take final  action.

Casey initially recorded a one-minute TKO victory over Bubba Bush at UFC 175 on July 5, but that result will be turned to a no contest as long as the drug test results hold true. The bout was Casey’s second in the Octagon, having lost on the The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale to Josh Samman.

Drostanolone is an anabolic steroid and is on the World Anti-Doping Association list of prohibited substances.

Drysdale’s T/E ratio was 12-to-1, according to Aguilar, which is well above the state’s limit of 6-to-1. An elevated T/E ratio can be indicative of exogenous testosterone use.

This is the second time that Drysdale has tested for an elevated T/E ratio. When he attempted to gain a license to fight Cody Donovan at UFC 167, Drysdale’s out-of-competition drug test showed a 19.4-to-1 ratio, thus he was refused a license.

Drysdale submitted Bubba Bush in the opening round of their fight, but like Casey, the result of the bout is likely to be changed to a no contest, pending the outcome of his NAC hearing.

Shortly after news of the drug test transgressions broke, UFC officials issued a statement acknowledging Casey and Drysdale’s transgressions, adding, “Both fighters have been temporarily suspended from competition and informed their positive tests violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes and will support the NSAC’s determination pending a formal hearing at a later date.”

UFC 175 took place on Saturday, July 5, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, while the TUF 19 Finale took place the following night at the same venue.
