Unsurprisingly, Kevin Ferguson Jr. is upset after scheduled Bellator 162 opponent Ray Bing today missed weight by nearly 17 pounds, resulting in the cancelation of their fight.
Ferguson Jr. (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), or “Baby Slice,” who is the son of the late Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, was supposed to fight Bing (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in a 165-pound catchweight bout at Friday’s event, which takes place at FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn., and airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. However, Bing weighed in at 181.9 pounds, forcing the promotion to call off the matchup.
It’s been a long road to Ferguson Jr.’s Bellator debut after he had a fight postponed due to injury in August. He was entirely prepared to compete this time, though, before his opponent was not able to hold up his end of the bargain.
“It’s frustrating as all hell that my debut has been delayed again, man,” Ferguson Jr. told MMAjunkie. “This dude coming in (17) pounds over is insanely unprofessional and all it means is that I’m going to take this anger out on whoever I get to ‘Slice’ up next.”
Ferguson Jr. was paid his “show” money for coming in at 164.6 pounds, which may make accepting the situation easier, but ultimately he doesn’t get to make his MMA debut; something he’s been preparing for since early 2016.
Although some fighters would get entirely bent out of shape after such a dramatic miss by an opponent, Ferguson Jr. said he’s not going to let the situation bring him down too low. He just wants to be booked for another fight as soon as possible so he can show the world his skills and take the first steps toward extending his father’s legacy through his own career.
“I’m not tripping – I came in on point, got paid and Bellator has a ton of shows before the end of the year, so I’m ready to go,” Ferguson Jr. said. “Hopefully I can get on one of them. Even if it’s Bellator 163 (on Nov. 4), I’m ready to go.”
