Karolina Kowalkiewicz volunteers following ex-champ Carla Esparza's open call

Former champion Carla Esparza wants an opponent, and fellow UFC strawweight Karolina Kowalkiewicz is willing to oblige.

On Tuesday, Esparza (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), looking for her first fight since a March 2015 title loss to Joanna Jedrzejczyk, said she’s looking forward to getting an opponent (via Twitter):

Early this morning, Kowalkiewicz (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) volunteered her services (via Twitter):

Kowalkiewicz, an undefeated Polish fighter, pitched the idea of doing the fight in the Netherlands. UFC Fight Night 87 takes place May 8 at Ahoy Rotterdam in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. Currently, no fights are official for the card, which is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Esparza, who’s been recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in her title loss, is ranked No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA strawweight rankings, and Kowalkiewicz is No. 9.

Prior to the title loss, wrestling-oriented Esparza, 28, had won five consecutive bouts, which included an Invicta FC title reign, as well as winning “The Ultimate Fighter 20,” which earned her the inaugural title following a submission win over Rose Namajunas.

Kowalkiewicz, 30, recently made her UFC debut and scored a decision victory over Randa Markos. The former KSW flyweight champion dropped down to strawwweight for the December bout.
