KSW22: Pawel Nastula vs. Kevin Asplund

One of the leading mixed martial arts organization in Poland and one of the leading promotions in Europe, KSW, has officially announced a light heavyweight title bout between Olympic judo gold medalist Pawel Nastula (4-4 MMA) and Minnesota’s Kevin Asplund (15-3 MMA, 0-1 BFC) at KSW 22. Also a light heavyweight title bout between UFC veteran Goran Reljic (11-3 MMA, 1-3 UFC) and Polish Jan Blachowicz (16-3 MMA) will take place at the same show.

KSW 22 will take place at Torwar, Warsaw on 16.03.2013.


Pawel Nastula, a Polish judoka who became a 1996 gold medalist at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He later started pracicing mixed martial arts and debuted at Pride Critical Countdown 2005 on June 26, 2005 in Saitama, Japan against world famous BBJ fighter Antônio Rodrigo Nogueir. However the Polish fighter lost that day to the Brazilian by TKO (punches) at the end of round one. Nastula won his last fight against Jimmy Ambriz  by submission (hand injury) in round one at STC: Bydgoszcz vs. Torun on October 1, 2011 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Asplund suffered a defeat in his last 2012 appearances via doctor stoppage to Brett “The Grim” Rogers at Bellator 71. “It will be my first time in Europe and the first time Poland. I will face the fighter, whom I watched competing in Judo at the Atlanta Olympic Games. It motivates me to train harder and I’m confident I’ll be victorious at KSW22” – Asplund says.
