Josh Sampo vs. Sam Thao headlines October's CFA 12 event in Florida

joshua-sampo.jpgChampionship Fighting Alliance flyweight champ Josh Sampo (9-2) puts his belt on the line against promotional newcomer Sam Thao (7-1) in the headlining bout of next month’s CFA 12 event, which sees four titles awarded in a single night.

The night’s previously announced co-feature sees Fallon Fox (3-0) face Ashlee Evans-Smith (1-0) for the CFA women’s featherweight tournament title and $20,000.

CFA officials recently confirmed the plans.

CFA 12 takes place Oct. 12 at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. tickets for the event, which start at $29, are currently on sale at Ticketmaster.com. The night’s main card airs live on AXS TV.

“The Gremlin” Sampo currently sits in the No. 13 slot in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA flyweight rankings. He boasts a 6-1 mark in his last seven appearances, a run that includes wins over Alexis Vila and Antonio Banuelos. His lone loss in that span is to the man currently ranked No. 12, Will Campuzano.

Samp now meets Thao, a once-beaten Wisconsin fighter who currently boasts a four-fight win streak.

Fox has been a fixture in the MMA news since announcing she is a transgender fighter. She meets Evans-Smith for the tournament title after submitted Allanna Jones at CFA 11 in May. Evans-Smith beat Tori Adams at CFA 10 in March to move into the finals of the four-woman tournament.

Fox picked up quick first-round wins in her first two fights with a TKO of Elisha Helsper in May 2012, then a 39-second knockout of Ericka Newsome in March. She needed a little longer to take out Jones with a shin-choke with just about 90 seconds left in their fight at CFA 11.

Evans-Smith made her pro debut at CFA 10 after going 5-4 in her amateur career, which included five fights for the Las Vegas-based Tuff-N-Uff.

Additionally, interim featherweight champion Sean Soriano (8-0) will face off against two-time CFA veteran Peter Grimes (12-8), and E.J. Brooks (7-1) meets Yoisdenis Cedeno (8-2) for the vacant CFA lightweight belt.
