Josh Koscheck Meets Tyron Woodley in Welterweight Duel at UFC 167

Josh Koscheck and Tyron Woodley will do battle in a pivotal welterweight pairing at UFC 167, promotion officials announced Thursday.

UFC 167 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and is headlined by a welterweight title conflict between Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks. The Nov. 16 show airs live on pay-per-view and will also see Rory MacDonald collide with Robbie Lawler in another crucial 170-pound showdown.

Koscheck unsuccessfully challenged St. Pierre for the UFC welterweight strap in 2010 but rebounded with back-to-back wins over Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce. Nevertheless, “Kos” rides a two-fight skid heading into his meeting with Woodley, as the “TUF 1” veteran was outpointed by Hendricks last year before suffering a first-round knockout at the hands of Robbie Lawler this past February.

In Woodley, Koscheck faces another skilled wrestler, though the Missourian has struggled to find consistency in recent times. After sustaining a brutal knockout at the hands of Nate Marquardt in his failed bid to capture the Strikeforce title, Woodley impressed in his Octagon debut, blasting Jay Hieron into unconsciousness in just 36 seconds. Woodley’s most recent performance was a lackluster one, however, as the 31-year-old dropped a grinding split decision to Jake Shields two months ago at UFC 161.
