Josh Barnett on UFC Return: No Heavyweight is Safe

Josh Barnett has a message for the UFC heavyweight division.

“The enemy has returned. I've signed with the UFC, and no heavyweight is safe,” Barnett recently wrote on Twitter. “They're all due a lesson in violence from ‘The Warmaster.’”

Barnett’s tweet serves as the first official confirmation of the heavyweight’s UFC signing. Sherdog.com reported the catch wrestler’s imminent Octagon return earlier this week after confirming the deal with a source close to the negotiations.

A longtime mixed martial artist and professional wrestler, Barnett began his fighting career in 1997 and made his UFC debut three years later. “The Warmaster” bested Randy Couture to win the promotion’s heavyweight title in 2002 but was later stripped of the belt after testing positive for banned substances.

Following a successful career in Japan under the Pancrase and Pride Fighting Championships banners, Barnett returned stateside to compete for Affliction and then Strikeforce, advancing to the finals of the latter promotion’s heavyweight grand prix before suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Daniel Cormier. The 35-year-old last competed on Jan. 12 at Strikeforce’s final show, where he submitted an overmatched Nandor Guelmino in just 2:11.

He stranded Stipe Miocic on FOX Sports 1, who went on to flatten Fabio Maldonado. The good news is, both fighters are more

A big drop for the UFC and Fox Sports 1 in the ratings department as Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens (and the supporting cast) were unable to pull in significant viewing numbers Last week was the first ever headlining spot for Cub Swanson and just the second for Jeremy Stephens. Swanson took an entertaining unanimous decision over Stephens in San Antonio to earn (likely) a title shot against the Jose Aldo/Chad Mendes winner. Unfortunately for Cub, his main event debut did not produce good rating more

Will he or won't he? You'll have to watch Inside MMA on AXS TV to find out. Unless he's moving up to middleweight, Georges St. Pierre probably isn't coming back to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) before year's end, unless stuffing your face with a creamy cone is the latest fad in mixed martial arts (MMA) weight management. Not that I'm judging, mind you. The good news is, we may finally find out if and when the former 170-pound kingpin will make his return to the cage, as "Rush" is schedule more
