Hours after announcing that he had “big news” on the way, Jorge Masvidal took to Twitter to announce that he has a fight signed and to motivate fans into speculating over the opponent.
Masvidal (29-9 MMA, 6-2 UFC) rebounded from a highly controversial split-decision loss to Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 63 with a first-round knockout of Cezar Ferreira at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale on July 12. The Ferreira fight also marked Masvidal’s return to the welterweight division.
Masvidal teased a new signing with a Twitter post reading, “Who’s #head is going on the mantle next?”
With a 4-1 record in his past five outings, Masvidal has not been shy about wanting to land a big name for his next bout. After knocking out Ferreira, Masvidal called out Matt Brown, though he’s tied up with a bout with Kelvin Gastelum in UFC Fight Night 78’s main event, which leaves Masvidal’s most requested option unavailable.
The other name Masvidal threw out as a desired option was Dong Hyun Kim. Kim, the No. 11 ranked fighter in the NOS Energy Drink MMA welterweight rankings, is coming off a come-from-behind win over Josh Burkman at UFC 187 and does not have a fight lined up.
