Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II set for UFC 178 on September 27th

Relax, MMA fans. You're getting your rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.

The soap opera is over and Jon Jones will be defending his light heavyweight belt against Alexander Gustafsson, just a few weeks later than originally planned.

After meeting with Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta in Las Vegas, Jones tweeted "It's on!", and not too long after that the UFC formally announced his rematch with  Gustafsson will happen at UFC 178 in Toronto, ON, the same location as their initial encounter last year. Here's what Jones had to say about the whole ordeal, plus an explanation about speculation over his contract:

"There was never an issue with a contract. I was traveling and finally got to Vegas and got to talk with Dana and Lorenzo. We talked and September 27th, I'll be fighting Gustafsson," Jones explained.

"I think Cormier is the tougher fighter, but the fans want to see me fight Gustafsson. There was never an issue with taking the Gustafsson fight," Jones said. "The issue was that my brother is getting married in July and I would have preferred a later date. I didn't want to go this early and i would have preferred to go later in October or November. It is what it is. We have a date now, Sept 27th. This was a personal decision for me. I will be at my brother's wedding and have a proper training camp."

So there you have it. Jones vs. Gustafsson II is a done deal, both parties have agreed, and the talk can be re-focused on what should be one of the biggest title fight rematches in UFC history. Meanwhile, it appears Daniel Cormier will wait for his title shot.
