Jon Jones Submits Dan Henderson, Calls Out Chael Sonnen | MMAWeekly.com

Although it didn’t carry the same allure as a fight in the Octagon would have, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones submitted former two-division Pride FC titleholder Dan Henderson at Submission Underground 2 on Sunday in Portland, Ore.

Jones and Henderson had been slated to meet under mixed martial arts rules at UFC 151 in September of 2012, but Henderson had to withdraw due to injury with just days to go until fight time. Jones declined a short-notice bout with Chael Sonnen and the event was subsequently canceled altogether.

At Submission Underground 2, Jones and Henderson met under the highly popular Eddie Bravo Tournament rules. 

While Jones remains under suspension from MMA competition until next summer, he was free to grapple with Henderson, leaving no doubt as to his victory. Jones applied an arm-triangle choke from mount, forcing Henderson to submit 6:39 into the match.

Following the victory, according to MMAJunkie.com, Jones then called out Submission Underground promoter and current Bellator light heavyweight Chael Sonnen for a grappling match, who obliged, offering Jan. 29 as a date for the match. Sonnen is also slated to fight Tito Ortiz at Bellator 170 on Jan. 21 in Los Angeles.

They weren’t the only notable mixed martial artists at the grappling event, however, as recently retired former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate secured an overtime-escape -time victory over current UFC fighter Jessica Eye.
