Joey Villasenor vs. Chris Camozzi Heads Shark Fights 15 in New Mexico

Shark Fight Promotions on Wednesday announced the main event for its upcoming event on May 27 at the Santa Anna Star Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Shark Fights 15 features Strikeforce and Pride veteran Joey Villasenor vs. UFC veteran Chris Camozzi.

“We have a great show planned for New Mexico. Shark Fights 15 is stacked from top to bottom with elite contenders, including a main event bout between Chris Camozzi and Joey Villasenor,” said Shark Fights executive Wes Nolen. “This is a very compelling match up and an important fight for both fighters. This is their opportunity to prove to the fans that they are still top contenders in the sport.”

Villasenor (27-8) is coming off of back-to-back losses for the first time in his lengthy career. He dropped unanimous decisions to Danillo Villefort at Shark Fights 13 last September and current Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery a year ago.

Camozzi (14-4) emerged from Season 11 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” going 2-1 during his time in the Octagon, but couldn’t survive the axe following a first-round submission loss to Kyle Noke at UFC 127 in February.

Both men will be trying to right the ship at Shark Fights 15, which marks the first time the promotion has strayed outside of its home state of Texas.

“Everyone in our organization is very excited about hosting shows not only in Texas, but other cities across the country as well,” added Nolen. “We are geared up for another action packed fight event and can’t wait to make our debut in Albuquerque.”

Shark Fight Promotions will be announcing the full Shark Fight 15 fight card soon. Tickets are available online at www.sharkfights.com and www.santaanastarcenter.com. Fans can also purchase tickets at the Santa Ana Center Box Office and the Santa Ana Star Casino Rewards Desk.
