Joey Villasenor Drops to Welterweight, Faces Che Mills at BAMMA 7

Joey Villasenor

Former Strikeforce and Pride fighter Joey Villesenor will be making the move to welterweight for his next fight. Villasenor faces Che Mills at BAMMA 7 in England on Sept. 10.

BAMMA officials revealed the fight to MMAWeekly.com on Friday.

Following a long and successful career at middleweight, Team Jackson fighter Joey Villasenor has opted to make the shift to 170 pounds after noticing that his cut to middleweight was getting smaller and smaller.

As one of the original Team Jackson fighters, Villasenor has faced some of the best competition over the years at 185 pounds, but will now look to make a new mark when he drops to welterweight.

Challenging Villasenor for his first fight at welterweight will be British prospect Che Mills.

A winner of four fights in a row, Mills has appeared on two previous BAMMA shows, including BAMMA 6 in May where he he knocked out Marcio Cesar in the first round.

The bout between Villasenor and Mills will likely take a spot on the main televised card on Sept. 10, with the BAMMA 7 main event pitting Tom “Kong” Watson against Frank Trigg in a battle for the promotion’s middleweight title.
