Both UFC broadcast teams will be represented when the organization makes it debut on the new FOX Sports 1 channel in August.
Pay-per-view/UFC on FOX color commentator Joe Rogan and UFC on FX/UFC on FUEL TV play-by-play man Jon Anik will share a booth at UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which takes place Aug. 17 at TD Garden in Boston.
The New York Post’s Marc Raimondi first tweeted news of the assignments.
A reason wasn’t given for the setup. However, Rogan and Anik also shared a booth back in December when Rogan’s usual partner, Mike Goldberg, was sidelined with health issues. Additionally, Goldberg filled in at March’s UFC on FUEL TV 9 event and shared a booth with Kenny Florian because Anik’s wife was due to give birth back in the U.S.
According to Raimondi, Florian and Chael Sonnen will host the studio shows for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1. That means Sonnen’s previously rumored bout with Wanderlei Silva is unlikely to be part of the fight card.
The August event marks the UFC’s move from FX and FUEL TV to the new FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports 2 channels. The new offerings, which launch Aug. 17, replace SPEED and FUEL TV, and will undergo a substantial format change.
As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) recently reported, a lightweight title fight between champion Benson Henderson (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) and recent UFC 160 winner T.J. Grant (21-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) is a potential UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 headliner.
