Jake Ellenberger vs. Tarec Saffiedine Rescheduled for UFC 172 in Baltimore

Jake EllenbergerA welterweight battle between Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine has been rescheduled for UFC 172. The fight will take place on April 26 in Baltimore, as part of the supporting cast for the Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira main event.

UFC officials announced the bout on Friday.

Ellenberger vs. Saffiedine has originally slated for UFC Fight Night 34, which opened the UFC’s 2014 fight schedule, but an Ellenberger suffered a hamstring injury that derailed those plans.

Due to the injury, Ellenberger (29-7) hasn’t fought since July, when he lost a unanimous decision to Rory MacDonald. That fight killed the momentum that Ellenberger had going after back-to-back victories over Nate Marquardt and Jay Hieron.

Saffiedine (15-3) still headlined UFC Fight Night 34 in Singapore despite Ellenberger’s withdrawal. That date had been a year in the making and he made the most of it, winning a dominant unanimous decision victory over Hyun Gyu Lim in the Fight of the Night.

That bumps the former Strikeforce champion’s streak to five consecutive victories. A win over Ellenberger would bolster his case to get a shot at the championship, which will be decided when Johny Hendricks at Robbie Lawler meet at UFC 171 in March.
