Next month’s UFC Fight Night 28 event in Brazil has a late change.
Marcelo Guimaraes suffered an elbow injury and has been forced out of a welterweight bout with Keith Wisniewski (28-14-1 MMA, 0-3 UFC), and promotional newcomer and Jungle Fight lightweight champion Ivan Jorge (24-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will move up a weight class and serve as a replacement, according to Globo’s SporTV.
UFC Fight Night 28 takes place Sept. 4 at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte. The six-fight main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on Facebook.
Jorge vs. Wisniewski is slated for the prelim stream.
Jorge, nicknamed “Batman,” enters the UFC on the strength of a six-fight winning streak with 10 victories in his past 11 fights. All of the Brazilian’s wins have come via submission. In June the 32-year-old used a first-round rear-naked choke to tap out Lucio Abreu and win the Jungle Fight belt.
Meanwhile, in 2011 Wisniewski put together a six-fight winning streak to earn his way back to UFC, where he fought once in 2005 and suffered a decision loss to Nick Thompson. However, following a TKO loss to Josh Neer and a split-decision defeat to Chris Clements, he’s still in search of his first UFC win. The 31-year-old Indianan fights for the first time in 2013 after competing just once in 2012.
