Isaac Vallie-Flagg Faces Adriano Martins at Strikeforce ‘Melendez vs. Healy’ in Sacramento

Lightweights Isaac Vallie-Flagg and Adriano Martins will square off at Strikeforce “Melendez vs. Healy” on Sept. 29, promotion officials announced Friday.

The newly added contest joins a previously announced lightweight championship main event between reigning titlist Gilbert Melendez and challenger Pat Healy. The event takes place at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, Calif., and airs on Showtime and Showtime Extreme.

Vallie-Flagg has not lost since July 2007, when he was submitted by Bellator vet Rudy Bears. Since that setback, the Jackson’s MMA representative has posted a record of 10-0-1, recently dropping to 155 pounds and taking a split decision from former world-ranked lightweight Gesias Cavalcante on May 19. Vallie-Flagg has finished eight of his 13 career victims by either knockout or submission and has never been knocked out in his nine years as a pro.

Martins’ [pictured: left] showdown with Vallie-Flagg will mark the 30th career outing for the Brazilian, who enters the cage riding a four-fight winning streak. The 30-year-old’s lone defeat in his last 11 appearances came last year at the hands of future “Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” contestant Francisco Trinaldo. Martins would go on to capture the Jungle Fight lightweight title last November, finishing Neilson Gomes in just 81 seconds to win the belt. The Top Life Amazonas rep successfully defended his title on March 31, earning a 62-second technical knockout over Jimmy Donahue before signing with Strikeforce last month.
