High, who signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce in February, tweeted news of the match-up on Friday.
Headlined by a main event between Caros Fodor and James Terry, Challengers 16 will emanate from the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash., and will feature the return of Ryan Couture to the hexagonal Strikeforce cage, as Couture takes on the undefeated Matt Ricehouse. The event, which airs on Showtime, will also showcase two intriguing light heavyweight prospects, as Gian Villante squares off with Lorenz Larkin.
High has won his last four contests. A veteran of Dream competition, “The Kansas City Bandit” made his pro debut in 2005. The 29-year-old made his first and only UFC appearance at Fight Night 21 last year, falling by decision to Charlie Brenneman. Notably, High defeated Hayato Sakurai at Dynamite: The Power of Courage 2010 on New Year's Eve before submitting Rudy Bears with a first-round guillotine choke at Titan Fighting Championship 16 in January.
A brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the 26-year-old Mulhern has only tasted defeat once as a professional and rides a seven-fight winning streak heading into his showdown with High. The California native owns 10 of his 15 career wins by submission and has only seen the judges' scorecards twice since turning pro in 2007.
