LAS VEGAS – Buckle up, fight fans. It appears it’s going to be a typical Nick Diaz fight week.

Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC), who’s slated to meet Anderson Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 183 pay-per-view headliner, no-showed today’s open workouts and wasn’t in Las Vegas for the start of the media and fan event.

As the workouts got started at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, UFC Vice President of Public Relations Dave Sholler confirmed with MMAjunkie and other media outlets that Diaz wouldn’t be in attendance. Earlier today, the UFC debuted “UFC 183 Embedded,” its event-preview series, and the video suggested Diaz hadn’t made a scheduled flight.

Diaz, who’s had past no-shows that irked UFC officials, is supposed to arrive in Vegas this afternoon, his agent told UFC officials.

According to Sholler, Saturday’s fight, which follows extended layoffs from both fighters, is still a go for now.

Diaz is slated to return from a near-two-year layoff for the fight, which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena. The former Strikeforce champion hasn’t fought since an early-2013 loss to then-champ Georges St-Pierre, though the middleweight fight with ex-champ Silva had apparently lured him back to the cage.

Sholler said no fines or other penalties for Diaz have been discussed since UFC President Dana White and UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta have been tied up in meetings today.
