Gouveia-Jimmo Signed for MFC 25

Ten-time UFC veteran Wilson Gouveia will face Ryan Jimmo in a light heavyweight bout at MFC 25 “Vindication” on April 9 at the Winspear Centre/Enmax Hall in Edmonton, Alberta, the Canadian promotion announced on Wednesday.

The featured bout will mark American Top Team fighter Gouveia’s return to light heavyweight after four fights for the UFC’s middleweight division, which led to two consecutive defeats against Nate Marquardt and Alan Belcher. Gouveia also missed weight before his “Ultimate Fighter 8” Finale victory over Jason MacDonald in December 2008.

“It was too much sacrifice and too hard, man,” said Gouveia in an MFC release. “I’m a professional. I do this for a living and I love it, but I don’t like to miss weight, you know? And, I would pass out in the sauna and guys would drag me out and say, ‘You have to stop this.’ It was just too much sacrifice and too hard on my body.”

Jimmo isn’t a stranger to the Octagon either. The 29-year-old Saint John, New Brunswick native appeared on season eight of “The Ultimate Fighter” but was eliminated in the first round. Jimmo, who’s scored back-to-back victories against Marvin Eastman and Emanuel Newton in his last two outings, has only one blemish on his professional record -- a first-round loss to Adam Braidwood in Jimmo’s first MMA bout back in February 2007.

MFC 25 “Vindication” will air live on HDNet.
