Go behind the scenes of Benson Henderson's win at UFC on FOX 7
Benson Henderson (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) had to go into slightly hostile territory for his UFC lightweight title fight against Gilbert Melendez (21-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) this past Saturday at UFC on FOX 7.
But the champion left with his belt – and his girlfriend left with some hardware of her own when Henderson proposed in the octagon following his split-decision victory.
The main event was a battle of champions. Melendez was fighting in the UFC for the first time after holding the 155-pound title in Strikeforce and seven straight title fight wins in that promotion. And Henderson was defending his belt for the third time after successful defenses against Frankie Edgar in a rematch and Nate Diaz.
Once again, the UFC went behind the scenes of the card, which took place at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., not far from Melendez’s home training base.
