Light heavyweight contenders Glover Teixeira and Phil Davis will face off in the UFC 179 co-main event on Oct. 25 in Brazil. UFC officials announced the match-up on Thursday.
Teixeira (22-3) has won 20 of his last 21 fights. He’s hoping to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to champion Jon Jones at UFC 172 in his last outing. Prior to the April 26 loss to Jones, Teixeira hadn’t been defeated since 2005.
Davis (12-2, 1 NC) has only lost twice in his fighting career, each by decision. He reeled off five consecutive victories after arriving in the UFC in 2010 before losing to Rashad Evans at UFC on Fox 2. He had put together a three-fight winning streak before losing in his last outing to Anthony Johnson at UFC 172.
UFC 179 takes place at the Ginasio do Maracanazinho in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 25. The pay-per-view event is headlined by a rematch for the featherweight title between champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. Aldo defeated Mendes by knockout in their first meeting at UFC 142.
