A lightweight bout between Gleison Tibau (26-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) and John Cholish (8-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is the latest addition to May’s UFC on FX 8 lineup.
A source close to the event today confirmed the matchup with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). MMAFighting.com initially reported it. UFC officials made subsequently made a formal announcement.
UFC on FX 8 takes place May 18 at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The event’s main card airs live on FX following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.
Tibau vs. Cholish likely will be part of the prelims.
Tibau, who fights in his home country, had won three straight fights before a recent 1-2 skid, which included decision losses to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Evan Dunham, as well as a decision victory over Francisco Trinaldo. The 29-year-old fights for the 19th time with the UFC, where he first debuted back in 2006.
Cholish looks to get back in the win column following a May 2012 loss to Danny Castillo, which snapped an eight-fight win streak. The 29-year-old New Yorker made his UFC debut in December 2011 with a TKO win over Mitch Clarke, but he’s fought just once since then due to injuries.
