Gina Carano is slated to make her return to mixed martial arts on June 18. The question now is, who will be her opponent?

The leading candidate appears to be Sarah D’Alelio, according to MMAWeekly.com sources. If the bout comes to fruition, it will take place on Strikeforce’s main card at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas.

Sources indicated that the promotion is working hard to put this fight together, but not all parties involved have signed off on it at this time.

Carano (7-1) hasn’t seen action since fighting Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and suffering her first professional loss as a mixed martial artist. The fight ended via TKO in the final moments of the first round. Since then, Carano has focused on a movie career that includes filming for the yet to be released, “Haywire,” which also stars Ewan McGregor.

D’Alelio (4-1) would make her Strikeforce debut against the returning Carano. Her last outing was in a losing effort to Julie Kedzie via unanimous decision in December of last year. Undoubtedly, a fight with the woman whom many have dubbed “the face of women’s MMA” would be the biggest stage D’Alelio has ever been on.

MMAWeekly.com will provide more information on this fight as it becomes available.

Gina Carano to UFC? Not just yet ... Gina Carano can be a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, or she can be a Hollywood action star. But can she be both? Gina Carano isn't a fighter. She hasn't been a fighter since 2010. And she lost her last fight. If you're like me, your last memory of Gina Carano as a mixed martial artist was hoping referee Josh Rosenthal would have the heart to stop Cris Cyborg from beating her half to death. This was five years ago, or nearly so, and Carano was undefeated going into the fight. She was considered an underdog to Justino (then Santos), but only slightly so. That seems so very silly now, doesn't it? Hindsight is read news >>

A few months ago, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino vowed to retire Ronda Rousey the same way she did Gina Carano, and she isn’t backing down from that promise. Rousey, who knocked out Alexis Davis in 16 seconds at UFC 175 on Saturday night, is bathing in the spotlight as a UFC champion and the current face of women’s MMA.
