Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is headed into the biggest fight of his career. Not only is he making his featherweight debut; not only is he in a superfight with one of the other top pound-for-pound fighters on the planet; but Edgar is also afforded another rare distinction should he defeat 145-pound chmp Jose Aldo at UFC 156.
He would become only the third fighter in UFC history to hold title belts in two different weight classes. Randy Couture and BJ Penn were the first two UFC champions of such distinction.
“That’s not something that I try to think about,” said Edgar at the UFC 156 Media Day in Las Vegas. “Just to be mentioned among those would be huge. It speaks for itself.”
