Fox Sports 1 Blocks 8 Hours of UFC Content for Premiere, Plans Aug. 28, Sept. 4 Events

Fox officials recently announced that Fox Sports 1 will hold live UFC events on Aug. 28 and Sept. 4 in addition to the previously announced show coinciding with FS1’s Aug. 17 debut.

No fights have yet been announced for either the Aug. 28 or Sept. 4 events, but both shows are scheduled to take place on Wednesday night. Additionally, Fox today revealed that the Sept. 4 show will immediately precede the premiere of “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 18, which will feature UFC women’s champion Ronda Rousey and Cat Zingano as coaches.

The Aug. 17 show will be part of an eight-hour UFC programming block that Saturday. While no bouts have been officially announced for the card, a welterweight showdown between Matt Brown and Thiago Alves is reportedly in the works. The event takes place at the TD Garden in Boston and marks the promotion’s first trip to Beantown since August 2010. Both the main card and prelims will be broadcast on FS1. The event series is currently being called Fox UFC Saturday.

Fox Sports 1, which will be available in roughly 90 million homes, is currently known as Speed Channel. The rebranding was announced by Fox officials earlier this year and will also see Fuel TV renamed as Fox Sports 2.
