For Caros Fodor, Fighting His Brother at WSOF 32 is a Chance to Settle Their Differences

Following a successful stint in Asia fighting for ONE Championship, lightweight veteran Caros Fodor returned to the United States for the first time in three years this past January against former Pride FC standout Luiz Firmino.

Unfortunately for Fodor, the bout against Firmino didn’t go his way, and he ended up on the losing end of a unanimous decision.

“I felt so great building up to the fight, so I really have no excuse for that one,” Fodor told MMAWeekly.com. “I knew all he could do is get on top and lay on me, and I just kind of allowed him to do that in the first round.

“I had to make sure he did not get on top again, and it just took away all my offense because I was completely on defense to avoid the takedown.”

A half a year since the loss to Firmino, Caros (10-5) gets an opportunity to get back on track, this time against his adopted brother, Ben Fodor (7-1-1), in a main card catchweight bout at WSOF 32 on Saturday in Everett, Wash.

Understandably, Fodor knows that brotherly connection is going to be something a lot of people will focus on in their fight.

“Obviously that’s the angle they’re taking to hype the fight,” he said. “Everybody will be tuning in for that reason. Ben and I had a falling out, so this is the perfect time for he and I to fight and get things back to normal after we beat the crap out of each other.”

When it comes to matching up as pro MMA fighters, Fodor believes as long as he avoids his brother’s power, he should be able to come out on top.

“Ben has the X-factor,” said Fodor. “He’s very athletic and very strong. I’m going up a weight class to fight him. If he does clip me, he’ll probably knock me out. If I get caught up in wild exchanges and let him use that x-factor, it’ll be a long night for me.

“(Ben) makes horrible decisions. His submissions are sloppy. He’s just not a skilled fighter, and he knows that. I’ve just got to play it smart and make it a technical MMA fight, and I should absolutely just run right through him without too much of a problem whatsoever.”

Having been fighting for over 10 years, Fodor acknowledges that his window may be closing. So he wants to make the most of his opportunity now and earn the championship that has eluded him.

“I’ve been fighting for a long time,” he said. “I’m 32 now, and I’d like to be done by 35 or 36, so I really want to get after it. After this, I’d like to get back into 155 pounds and take on whoever they give me. I’d like to get a name, somebody that will get me back into the rankings.

“My goal is to be an MMA world champion, so I want to get the title. I want to get on a good win streak, get into contention for this belt and hopefully get an opportunity for me to be a champion in WSOF.”
