Fans invited to UFC 189 open workouts, press conference and weigh-ins

Fans headed to Las Vegas for next weekend’s UFC 189 event have some opportunities to get up close and personal with fighters on the card.

Fans are invited to Wednesday’s open workouts, Thursday’s press conference and Friday’s official fighter weigh-ins.

UFC 189 takes place July 11 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, and the main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Wednesday’s open workouts take place at MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Studios A and B. They kick off at 12:30 p.m. PT (local time).

Scheduled to attend are headliners Conor McGregor (17-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) and Chad Mendes (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC), as well as co-main-event fighters Robbie Lawler (25-10 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and Rory MacDonald (18-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC). McGregor and Mendes clash over the interim featherweight title after champ Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) withdrew from his scheduled title defense against McGregor. Lawler puts his welterweight belt on the line against MacDonald when the two rematch. Lawler took the first meeting and won a split decision at UFC 167.

Thursday’s press conference takes place at KA Theatre at MGM Grand at 1 p.m. PT. UFC President Dana White, McGregor, Mendes, Lawler and MacDonald all take part. In addition, Jake Ellenberger (30-9 MMA, 9-5 UFC), Stephen Thompson (10-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and the finalists from “The Ultimate Fighter 21? will attend. Those four fighters compete July 12 – the day after UFC 189 – at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale.

On Friday, the weigh-ins take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Doors open to the public at 3 p.m. PT, and the first fighter is on the scale at 4 p.m. PT.
