Exiled UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva booked for Fight Time 20 on Aug. 29 in Florida

After a high-profile arrest -- and release from UFC -- Thiago Silva returns to mixed martial arts (MMA) in "The Sunshine State."

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Thiago Silva is not only out of jail, he's back in the fight game, inking a new deal with Fight Time Promotions that puts him inside the cage at Fight Time 20 on Aug. 29, 2014, inside War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Fight Time announced the deal earlier today (via Sherdog).

The Brazilian slugger walked out of Broward County Jail earlier this year after posting $25,000 bond, stemming from his shocking arrest back on Feb. 6, 2014 in Oakland Park, Fla., thanks to an armed standoff with police (see his mug shot here).

He was initially detained and held without bond after the court deemed him a flight risk, as well as a threat to his community, but Broward Circuit court judge Geoffrey Cohen eventually reversed the ruling and transferred his case to domestic violence court.

Silva was released from UFC shortly after the incident, though attorney Scott Saul says his client was drunk at the time he allegedly brandished a weapon outside the Pablo Popovitch jiu-jitsu academy and thinks his wife's statement about domestic violence was "taken out of context" during her interview with police.

According to a report from FOX Sports, Silva (16-3, 2 NC) is once again training with the Blackzilians camp. An opponent for his combat sports return has not been disclosed at this time; however, Fight Time promoter and former Olympic gold medalist Howard Davis Jr. is expected to make that announcement in the coming days.

Stay tuned.
