Exec: UFC headed to England, Sweden, Poland, Ireland, Germany, Turkey in 2014

garry-cook-1.jpgThe UFC today unveiled part of its 2014 international event schedule, and some new countries will get their first events.

Today at an EA press conference in Germany, UFC executive Garry Cook, who’s a vice president and managing director for Europe and other regions, unveiled six countries that will get events next year.

They include four that previously hosted shows – England, Sweden, Ireland and Germany – as well as two new stops: Poland and Turkey.

Exact dates and other details were not disclosed by Cook, who helped unveil the UFC and EA Sports’ upcoming video-game title, “EA SPORTS UFC,” at today’s Gamescom press conference in Cologne.

While England and Sweden have been regular stops in recent years, the UFC hasn’t been in Ireland since UFC 93 in 2009. However, following Irish featherweight Conor McGregor‘s victory over Max Holloway this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 26, UFC President Dana White said the organization was planning a return to Dublin.

Additionally, after facing political and media backlash in Germany during a pair of events in 2009 and 2010, the UFC had halted its visits to the country. However, Cook today vowed a return in 2014.

UFC officials recently have mentioned Poland and Turkey as potential markets for future events, though no definitive plans were announced until today.
