“There’s been quite a few people that we haven’t singed that are throwing their names out there,” Sefo said in an interview for the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Rewind” program. “I think finding an opponent for Jon Fitch is not going to be a problem, because he’s such a big name that everybody would like to have a crack at him.”
The deal between the former UFC title challenger and the promotion, which has a three-year television contract with NBC Sports Network, was completed Thursday, Sefo said. To the surprise of many, Fitch was cut from the UFC after losing to Demian Maia at UFC 156 on February 2. He was 14-3-1 in his UFC campaign, which began in 2005.
“I had seen Jon a few times at UFC and I saw him in Japan, I got to talk to him a little bit,” Sefo said. “He’s a super nice guy, and we’re really blessed and fortunate to have him as part of our team. Guys like Jon Fitch, who’s a great fighter, deserve that kind of platform to showcase his skills.”
Sefo said Fitch is expected to fight in June on the second World Series of Fighting card of 2013. The promotion stages its first event of the year on March 28 in Atlantic City, which is headlined by Andrei Arlovski versus Anthony Johnson.
