A pivotal featherweight bout between Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas has been added to the upcoming UFC 155 card taking place on Dec 29 in Las Vegas.
Verbal agreements are in place for the featherweight match-up.
Koch returns to action after more than a year away from the sport dealing with various injuries that actually prevented the Duke Roufus trained fighter from facing UFC champion Jose Aldo.
Koch was twice scheduled to face Aldo in 2012, but due to injuries that occurred the fight never took place. Following Koch’s exit from those fights, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar was moved into the championship bout and will face Aldo next early next year.
Now Koch takes on Lamas in a bout that will undoubtedly help determine the next challenger to fight for the featherweight gold in 2013.
Ricardo Lamas comes into the fight on a three fight win streak including a victory over former top ranked featherweight contender Hatsu Hioki.
Lamas has been awaiting the call on his next fight, and now he’ll get the chance to potentially earn a shot at the featherweight title with a win over Koch.
The new fights will be added to the Dec 29 card taking place in Las Vegas headlined by heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos against former champion Cain Velasquez.
