Eight fighters transported to hospital following UFC Fight Night 33

ufc-fight-night-33-poster.jpgBRISBANE, Australia – If you attended the post-event press conference for UFC Fight Night 33, you might have noticed the dais was a little light on fighters.

That’s because eight of them were transported to the hospital following the event, according to Tom Wright, the UFC’s director of Canadian, Australian and New Zealand operations.

Not surprisingly, the list included heavyweight Antonio Silva and Mark Hunt, who fought to a bloody draw in the night’s headliner. They were handsomely rewarded for their efforts, each winning a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus as well as the win portion of their potential fight purses.

Wright said the heavyweights were sent as a “precautionary measure” and didn’t mention any specific injury.

Light heavyweights Anthony Perosh and Ryan Bader were also sent to the hospital. Perosh took a tremendous amount of damage in the three-round fight, and Bader said he may have injured his hand doling it out.

Middleweight Dylan Andrews, who suffered what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder in a fight with Clint Hester, was also shipped, as well as Pat Barry, Nick Ring and Caio Magalhaes.

Wright joined three victorious fighters – Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Soa Palelei, and Justin Scoggins – for the post-event presser, which concluded in a little more than 30 minutes.
