A bantamweight matchup between Erik Perez and Edwin Figueroa has been added to November’s UFC 167 event.
UFC officials today announced the pairing.
Featuring a welterweight title fight between champ Georges St-Pierre and challenger Johny Hendricks, UFC 167 takes place Nov. 16 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and the main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook. Figueroa (9-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) vs. Perez (13-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC) is likely to be part of the preliminary card.
“El Feroz” Figueroa will likely fight for his spot on the UFC roster. After debuting for the promotion with a hard-fought “Fight of the Night” loss to division standout Michael McDonald, the 29-year-old Figueroa earned back-to-back wins over Alex Caceres and Jason Reinhardt. However, consecutive losses to Roland Delorme and Francisco Rivera have put his spot on the roster in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, the Mexican-born Perez debut for the UFC with three straight first-round stoppage wins over Byron Bloodworth, Ken Stone and John Albert and instantly became a marketable commodity for the promotion in its push into Latin America. However, Perez faltered slightly in a recent step up in competition, losing a split-decision to Japanese veteran Takeya Mizugaki at August’s UFC Fight Night 27 event.
